The base engine for the 2022 RAM 2500 is a 6.4L Hemi V8. It makes a whopping 410 horsepower and gets 429 lb.-ft. of torque. Even this base engine is no slouch when it comes to towing. It can haul up to 17,540 pounds! Even though this is less than the 20,000 pound cap, it's a titanic number.

Cummins® Turbo Diesel Engine for the 2500

The optional engine for the 2500 is a diesel one. The 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel inline-six engine makes 370 horsepower and 850 lb.-ft. of torque! An interesting feature of diesel engines is their ability to achieve incredible torque outputs. Diesel is also a more efficient fuel than regular gas; a diesel vehicle can help you save at the pump. As noted above, a 2022 RAM 2500 with the Cummins engine and other proper equipment can tow up to 20,000 pounds!
