If you've been shopping for a pickup truck this year, you're surely aware that the completely redesigned 2019 RAM 1500 has set a new bar for pickup truck design. However, that's not the only 2019 RAM 1500 on the market today. RAM has also released the 2019 RAM 1500 Classic. Based on the previous-generation RAM, the Classic retains those award-winning design elements, and proves to be a great choice for those who want a time-tested, comfortable pickup truck without the higher premium that a redesigned model commands.

We're going to take a look at the 2019 RAM Classic, and why it deserves a place right next to its all-new sibling.

Revolutionary Comfort

RAM has long been known for producing the most comfortable pickup trucks on the market, and the 2019 RAM Classic is no exception. It all starts with RAM's patented coil spring suspension. This innovation in the pickup truck world brought the most comfortable suspension in the segment, but without sacrificing towing or payload performance. This has made the RAM 1500 a favorite for years, with some of the highest owner satisfaction ratings. That DNA continues with the 2019 RAM Classic.

The RAM Classic also has a quieter cabin than many competitors, and is built with premium materials. For those who plan to use their RAM on the jobsite, this will certainly be appreciated. And with its powerful engines and smooth transmission, driving the RAM 1500 Classic will certainly be a pleasure.

Powertrain & Trim Levels

The engine and trim availability is one of the things that sets the 2019 RAM 1500 classic apart from both the all-new RAM 1500 and its predecessor. Trim and engine options have been trimmed down for this special-release model. But that's not to say the RAM Classic is lacking.

The standard engine on all trim levels of the RAM Classic is a 3.6-liter V6 that puts out 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. The only other engine option is a 5.7l V8 at 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. While there aren't as many engine options available as on the redesigned model, RAM has smartly chosen these two engines, which will fulfill almost all buyers' needs.

The four trim levels available on the 2019 RAM 1500 Classic are the TradesmanExpress, SLT, and Big Horn.

The Tradesman and Express are distinctly work trucks, but offered with different options. For those looking for a truly basic work truck at a great price, the Tradesman is hard to beat. The Express adds carpeted flooring, larger wheels, and exterior styling changes.

Meanwhile, the SLT adds alloy wheels, a larger touchscreen, and other convenience features. The Big Horn is the top trim available on the 2019 RAM 1500, and adds quite a few more options. If you're looking at the RAM Classic as a daily driver, the Big Horn will probably be your best choice.

Standard features included on the Big Horn include: 115-volt power outlet, dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, front & rear parking sensors, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, as well as navigation. You also get nicer cloth seating, power driver's seat, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Although these features don't reach to the heights of the all-new 2019 RAM 1500, they cover a lot of the bases that people are looking for in a pickup truck. Combine them with the solid engine options and supremely comfortable ride, and the 2019 RAM 1500 Classic reminds you just how good the RAM 1500 was before its award-winning redesign.

The 2019 RAM 1500 Classic remains strongly competitive with even newer models, and has many of the features that shoppers look for in a work truck. While the redesigned 2019 RAM 1500 was named Motor Trend's Truck of the Year and has some serious luxury upgrades, it also has the price to match. RAM has provided a really solid alternative in the Classic, and it's no wonder it has been so popular. 2019 is the only year that this model will be in production, so act soon if it's on your list.
