RAM 1500 vs Silverado: Powertrain & Towing
Whether you're shopping for a new full-size pickup as an everyday vehicle or a hard-working tool in your arsenal, knowing the ins and outs of their powertrains is key to making the right decision when comparing trucks. This section will take a look at the different powertrain options offered by the 2019 RAM 1500 and 2019 Chevy Silverado.

The 2019 RAM 1500 comes standard with a 3.6l V6 that puts out 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. For many of our Carolina customers, this is plenty of power. Meanwhile, the 2019 Silverado ships with a larger 4.3l V6 at 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. However, despite its larger engine the Chevy offers less horsepower than the more efficient V6 in the base RAM. Owners will also appreciate the RAM 1500's mild hybrid eTorque system that maximizes both efficiency and real-world torque.
At the other end of the spectrum, both the 2019 RAM 1500 and 2019 Chevy Silverado offer larger V8 engine options to handle the toughest jobs and really get the pickup moving. RAM offers a 5.7l V8 with its eTorque mild hybrid technology, while the Silverado offers a 6.2l V8. However, despite offering a larger V8 than the RAM, the Silverado can't match the 2019 RAM 1500's towing numbers or fuel efficiency. That's partly due to the suspension and frame rigidity of the RAM 1500.

The RAM 1500 is still the only truck in its class to use coil spring rear suspension, which is what makes RAM the most comfortable pickup truck to drive. Its innovative design manages to improve comfort without sacrificing towing capability. RAM's unique air suspension has also received heaps of praise from reviewers and South Carolina owners as well. This adaptive suspension automatically adjusts to driving conditions, maximizing towing and also improving highway stability without sacrificing an inch of comfort.
